The South Side Five
This “psychedelic western surf” jazz band brings audiences on a ride back in time through the music of western swing-jazz. Greatly influenced by the style of Benny Goodman, Stephane Wrembel, Django Reinhardt and Hendrix, this north east Pennsylvania band is making tidal waves on the music scene.
The South Side Five is led by front-man, Roy Williams, a multi-instrumentalist backed up by some of the top players in the region: Mike Williams on Rhythm guitar, Nick Driscoll on sax, clarinet and other wind instruments, Ian O’Hara on upright bass and A.J. Jump on drums.
Many of the members of the South Side Five lived outside of the area for years, and returned to their hometown of Scranton by coincidence. In New York City, Roy Williams took note of the music and genre-themed nights that many bars in Manhattan had to offer and saw an opportunity to bring a piece of that culture to the Scranton region and beyond.
