Pete Muller and the Kindred Souls
Pete Muller is a problem solver. Whether he’s writing songs for his critically acclaimed albums, revolutionizing the way Wall Street works through applied mathematics, or crafting crosswords for the New York Times and Washington Post, the hyper-talented renaissance man always seems to have his eye on unlocking some deeper level of understanding. With his touching new album, Spaces, Muller takes on perhaps the biggest puzzle of them all: himself.
Recorded with Emmy Award-winning producer/arranger Rob Mathes (Sting, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Panic! At The Disco), Spaces is a lush and timeless collection, one that balances head and heart in equal measure as it wrestles with questions of love and connection and purpose and identity. The writing here is tender and poignant, fueled by profoundly empathetic character studies and remarkably vulnerable acts of self-reflection. The performances are warm and dynamic to match, mixing singer/songwriter intimacy with classic pop charm and jazz sophistication. Add it all up and you’ve got a rich, moving work of radical honesty that leaves no stone unturned in its examination of the tension between duty and fate, between commitment and escape, between who we are and who we’re meant to be.
Spaces follows Muller’s widely lauded 2019 release, Dissolve, which earned praise everywhere from American Songwriter to People Magazine, led to tour dates around the country, and helped land festival appearances from Montreux to Telluride. He is currently touring with his band The Kindred Souls, celebrating Pete’s ninth Top 30 charting song on Mediabase’s Adult Contemporary Radio Chart.

The Band
The Kindred Souls blend folk intimacy with classic pop charm and jazz sophistication to deliver organic, harmony-rich performances that explore the crossroads of American roots and soul music. The band’s new studio album, Hello Outside, offers a snapshot of their sonic DNA, with warm, stripped-down interpretations of songs by the likes of The Traveling Wiburys, Olivia Newton-John, The Police, Muse, and others. Produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National), the collection is a follow up to their 2021 debut The Sound, which yielded multiple Top 20 singles at Adult Contemporary Radio and garnered rave reviews for its bold re-imaginings of familiar classics.
THE PLAYERS
Pete Muller (Piano, Vocals)
Based in Santa Barbara, CA, Pete Muller has released five solo albums to date, earning praise
everywhere from American Songwriter to People Magazine in addition to landing headline tour
dates around the country and festival appearances from Montreux to Telluride. Recorded with
Emmy Award-winning producer/arranger Rob Mathes (Sting, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen,
Panic! At The Disco), his latest album, 2022’s Spaces, is a lush and timeless collection, one that
balances head and heart in equal measure as it wrestles with questions of love, commitment,
purpose, and identity.
John Whooley (Guitar, Sax)
Hailing from Western Colorado, multi-instrumentalist John Whooley built his considerable
reputation not only as a gifted guitar and sax player, but as a celebrated recording engineer
equally at home on both sides of the studio glass. His resume includes stints with experimental
California pioneers Estradasphere, as well the jam supergroup Santa Cruz Hemp Allstars, which
featured members of Soundtribe Sector 9, The Disco Biscuits, The Slip, and DJ Logic’s band.
Missy Soltero (Cajón, Vocals)
Enamored with sound and rhythm since she was a toddler, Missy Soltero began studying tap at
three, and by the age of ten, she was already appearing on stage and screen as an actress. After
a chance meeting, Soltero and Muller began harmonizing in the studio and on the road, and the
power of their chemistry was both immediate and undeniable. These days, Soltero, who
currently resides in Mammoth Lakes, CA, shares lead vocal duties with Muller and holds down
percussion for the band on cajón.
Martha McDonnell (Violin, Vocals)
Martha is no stranger to the limelight, with stints with major orchestras and Broadway shows,
such as the world premiere of “The Last Ship” with Sting, performing on stage with the original
Broadway cast of Steve Martin’s “Bright Star”, and the acclaimed “Girl from the North Country”.
Her success has led to performances on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, The Today
Show, Charlie Rose, and the Tony Awards. Commenting on the band’s chemistry, Martha adds,
“I think we each bring something unique to the table. We also laugh a lot, which makes the
whole experience that much more fun.”
